St. Andrew’s was a dream that became a reality on September 14,1970. “When Neil first envisioned this home for senior citizens, until it was opened in 1970 he, tenaciously and stubbornly, met the opposition, dodged the pitfalls and looked for the money to make his dream of a home become a reality” Win Miller- A look Back. In partnership with his good friend Tom Campbell for support and for excellent legal advice they persuaded community leaders and government to help. It was a good partnership, backed by many hard working women and men.
Since the original build there have been several additions including the third floor in 1988 all of which are now part of the residence that we know today. It was always part of the original vision to provide a continuum of care for seniors and thus the terrace was built in 1998. A life lease project, the Terrace allows for a transition for seniors not quite ready to live in community but access many of the same services as the St. Andrew’s Residents without ever needing to step outside the building. This continuum of care was always part of the original vision and has helped St. Andrew’s remain true to itself.
It is because of the caring staff that has never lost sight of what really matters-the residents; A talented administrative team; A committed Board and Foundation and the many people who have supported us through the years. The legacy of St. Andrew’s, present for the first 50 years is still alive and well today.
